Internally referred to as the “R15 plus”, the new design features changes that stem from aerodynamic rule changes mandated by Le Mans organiser Automobile Club do l’Ouest. The modifications called for changes to the car’s air restrictors as well as a reduction in turbocharging pressure for diesel-powered vehicles.
Audi said it spent as much time as possible reworking the car’s aerodynamics in the off-season, resulting in a split-nose look. The German manufacturer said this modification has kept overall performance loss to a minimum.
Due to a lack of preparation time, the R15 will not compete in this weekend’s 12 Hours of Sebring event, but will instead begin testing at the circuit two days after the race.
