Mercedes Benz F 800 Style Review

MERCEDES-BENZ HAS today revealed the F800 Style concept, ahead of its official March 2 unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show.

Following the design language previewed by its ‘Rising Car’ sculpture at Detroit last month, Mercedes says the F800 Style is a glimpse at what we can expect to see from future models – the next-generation CLS, in particular.

Of course, with its ultra-narrow headlights and sliding rear doors, more than a few of the F800’s features are unlikely to make it to production.

Styling aside, the F800 is built to accommodate a range of powertrain options, including an S400-like plug-in hybrid system producing 300kW and offering an all-electric driving range of 30 kilometres.

Two features of the F800 that likely will appear sooner rather than later in production models are the Distronic Plus Traffic Jam Assistant and the Pre-Safe 360-degree system.

Distronic Plus Traffic Jam Assistant is, to all intents and purposes, a next-generation version of active cruise control, capable of guiding the car through curves and long corners at speeds up to 40km/h.

Pre-Safe 360-degree extends Mercedes’ existing Pre-Safe ‘collision detection system’ to the rear of the vehicle; a dynamic protective feature designed to save the car and occupants from rear-end collisions, along with the existing front and side collision detection.
